Network Management Policy

Kansas Broadband Internet is committed to providing reliable and high-quality internet service to our customers. The management policy can be changed without notice. This policy is designed to inform and educate customers or prospective customers about products and services offered by Kansas Broadband Internet but does not guarantee any type of service level.

Performance

We monitor our network infrastructure to help ensure the services being subscribed to are being delivered. However, there are many factors beyond the control of Kansas Broadband Internet that can affect the speeds a customer may receive, including but not limited to:

  1. Performance of a customer's computer or device, including its age, processing capability, its operating system, the number of applications running simultaneously, and the presence of any adware or viruses. You should make sure you are running the most up-to-date operating system your computer or other Internet connected devices can handle (with all available patches installed) to maximize your connection speed.

  2. Type of connection between a customer's computer and customer premise equipment. If there is a wireless router between your customer premise equipment and your Internet connected device, the connection speed you experience can often be slower than direct connections into your router or customer premise equipment and depends on the model and configuration of the router that you use. Certain routers are able to pass data to your Internet connected devices more quickly than others. Wireless connections also may be subject to greater fluctuations, interference, and congestion. Wireless router connections used with higher speed tiers may be particularly impacted, as many wireless connections do perform at speeds delivered by these tiers.

  3. Congestion or latency of services used like streaming services or game servers. High usage levels at the website or destination. If a large number of visitors are accessing the site or particular destination at the same time, your congestion will be affected if the site or destination does not have sufficient capacity to serve all visitors efficiently.

Speeds and Latency

Speeds are based on best effort services. Speeds can vary depending on distance, line of sight, outside interference and customer’s network design. Speeds are based on the rate delivered to the customer premise equipment.

Latency is dependent on several factors like wireless technology, distance from the access points, line of sight and network path to the destination.

.

Congestion Management

Congestion is a time when the network sees higher usage. This can be seen at the customer’s location or across the network during nights or weekends when the internet is heavily used. We monitor the network to determine if an area of congestion could occur, identify areas of possible congestion, and make network improvements prior to any congestion occurring. If a period of congestion occurs, customers may experience things like: long times to download or upload files, surfing the Web may seem somewhat slower, or playing games online may seem somewhat sluggish. We do not manage congestion based on the online activities, protocols, or applications an individual customer uses; it only focuses on the areas of heaviest usage and works to alleviate any congestion prior to any customer impact. The purpose is to eliminate periods of congestion as quickly as possible.

Data Prioritization

Kansas Broadband Internet is committed to providing the best online experience possible for all of its customers and uses reasonable network management practices to ensure that our services are used in ways that are consistent with the specifications of a shared network. The network management practices used by Kansas Broadband Internet are consistent with the industry standards. For example, we use tools and practices to reduce negative effects of spam, viruses or other harmful code or content, security attacks, network congestion, and other risks and degradation of the service. By engaging in reasonable and responsible network management, Kansas Broadband Internet can deliver the best possible broadband internet experience to all of its customers.

  • We do not block, throttle or inhibit lawful content, specific applications or classes of applications.

Port Blocking

We do not block any ports for customer traffic but reserve the right to protect the integrity of the network. We may block or limit sources that are commonly used to send spam, perform DDOS attacks, and any other traffic or protocols as needed for network performance and security.

Data Caps or Usage Limits

We do not limit usage or enforce data caps on our Fixed Broadband.

Mobile Broadband plans can have data caps or usage limits depending on the product or provider used.

Kansas Broadband will continue to monitor and adjust our management practices to align with current Internet usage.  Any updates to the network management policy will be posted on our website.
